9/27/23: Thomas D. Egan VFW Post 850 wants to thank our guests from, Children Of The American Revolution and Daughters Of The American Revolution for coming to our meeting and honoring Vietnam Era Veterans. History shows that when Vietnam Vets returned home, the welcoming was anything but. The two groups wanted to welcome the vets home and presented commemorative pins.
8/23: Banner Project - A private citizen committee, the "Military Tribute Banner Committee", which is composed of residents and veterans, has asked the Mayor and Council for permission to start a banner program as a tribute to those residents who served in the military. Former Councilman William "Skip" Huisking presented the case for the banners at the July 26 council meeting.
5/3/23: Some of the veterans of the Thomas D. Egan Glen Rock VFW Post 850 had the opportunity to attend ceremonies on the Mall in Washington DC, along with members of Williamstown HS. The ceremonies were sponsored by the Honor Flight Network.

3/29/23: 50th Anniversary Of The End Of The Vietnam War.
March 29, 2023, marks the 50th anniversary of the departure of the last American Troops from Vietnam.
In 2012, President Barack Obama signed a presidential proclamation, designating March 29 as the annual observance of Vietnam War Veterans Day.
March 29, 2023 is the 50th anniversary of the departure of the last American troops from Vietnam - March 29, 1973. Only U.S. embassy personnel and support staff remained in South Vietnam until the fall of Saigon on April 30, 1975. The Vietnam Era lasted 11/1/55 – 5/15/75. More than 58,000 Americans were killed and many thousands more were wounded, injured, or determined to be missing in action. Today, there are 7 million Vietnam era vets living in America and abroad.
"The Vietnam War is a story of service members of different backgrounds, colors and creeds who came together to complete a daunting mission," the proclamation states. "It is a story of Americans from every corner of our nation who left the warmth of family, voluntarily or involuntarily, to serve the country they loved. It is a story of patriots who braved the line of fire, who cast themselves into harm's way to fight for their country and the soldier next to them. They fought hour after hour, day after day to preserve the liberties we hold dear."
The proclamation also states: "In one of the war's most profound tragedies, many of these men and women came home to be shunned or neglected — to face treatment unbefitting their courage and a welcome unworthy of their example. We must never let this happen again."
Please stand with us and reach out to everyone you know that served in our military during the Vietnam era, and just say “Welcome Home and Thank You”.
